DTEC System

Exco's Research and Development Department has developed a Die Temperature Control system (D-TeC) which automatically controls die temperature during the casting process.

From the beginning of the die-development process, the control system is considered. Thermocouples are positioned at numerous critical points throughout the die and upon casting start-up D-TeC© analyzes and compares thermocouple data with desired operating temperatures, adjusting the water flow to each zone based upon these two variables. The D-TeC© algorithm is sophisticated; considering not only the temperature difference, but also the rate at which this difference is changing as well as the accumulated average deviation from the desired temperature since system start-up.

Here are some of the features and benefits of our system:

  • While 8 zones is generally sufficient, D-TeC© will independently control up to 32 zones within the die, achieve extra cooling at problem-hot-spots, less cooling for other areas.

  • Drastically reduced heat fluctuation in the die compared to manual adjustment, resulting in less stress and heat-fatigue placed upon the die material.

  • Can be operated as a closed system, thus allowing for the use of purified water to inhibit scale build-up.

  • Fast start-up time water is modulated until the die reaches the desired operating temperature.

  • All data is written to a text file which may then be compared and correlated with scrap reports and/or other quality assurance programs. In addition, the data is also written to DPA©, EXCO's Data Plotting Application package which enhances data comprehension through detailed graphical representations of any previous D-TeC© file.
